About San Miguel Designs

When Patrice Wynne founded San Miguel Designs, she found her perfect expression in her love of Mexican style, her flair for color, her natural enterprising spirit and her inclination for community involvement. San Miguel Designs and Abrazos work with the local seamstresses in a fare trade environment, empowering and mentoring the women by providing work with dignity. The Collection is created using printed fabrics with Mexican iconic images: Frida Kahlo, Day of the Dead, Virgin of Guadalupe, Hearts, Papel Picado, Las Señoritas, Chiles, Tomatos, Lemons, Sugar Skulls, Talavera, Piñatas, Senor Burrito and many more designs.

It all began with a line of aprons, but now includes hand bags, men shirts, ties, robes, pyjamas, baby bibs, eyemasks, pot holders, luggage tags, travel bags and patchwork aprons and handbags utilizing fabric remnants. This stylish collection has appeared in

magazines, books, expositions in museums, stores and boutiques all the world and in the Mexico City airport. We are always searching for new markets for our original designs!

"Mentoring young women and working with Mexican seamstresses is one of the greatest joys of my life" says Patrice. Working with the multi-talented managers Mayela Vazquez and Aarón León, Patrice is able to advance to the vanguard of new designs and tendencies in Mexico. Often she travel to Mexico City and around Mexico to participate in exhibitions, including Project Fusion, American Embassy and Enart in Tlaquepaque.

"I work with several families that do all the production. The entire family participate in all aspects of the production such as cutting and dressmaking," explains Patrice. Elda and Veronica Martínez, whose specialize in The Fiesta Aprons, are two sisters that learned the art from their father, a recognized mariachi costume maker in San Miguel. Elsa Lopez Lopez comes from a family with many talented seamstresses including her mother Flavia and her brother Nicolas. The specialty of Elsa are the patchwork aprons and hand bags. Her sister Lucrecia Soria Lopez also is a talented seamstress, with the specialty of aprons and pot holders. Feliza Ortiz Gonzalez, family head, creates men shirts, robes, pyjamas and other products. Maria Guadalupe Guarneros, also the head of her family, makes baby bibs, hand bags, cosmetiqueras and purses. Sibiliana Morales Campos has had an entire experience life in high fashion, creates aprons, hand bags and special orders. With the many talented seamstresses and their families, the magic San Miguel Designs come to life: "TOGETHER we ARE MORE."

To show its designs in San Miguel, Patrice has opened a boutique store called ABRAZOS. She chose the name of Abrazos since it transmits the warm and hospitality of the Mexican culture. The store is located in the Historic Center of San Miguel de Allende near the main Jardin between the Instituto Allende and Bellas Artes, the most famous art and culture centers in San Miguel.
